Jason Freeman recognized for excellence in cancer disparities research

Predoc receives numerous awards to present his research

Jincong (Jason) Freeman, a third-year doctoral student working with Dr. Dezheng Huo, is deeply committed to researching racial and ethnic disparities in breast cancer and inequities in cancer care. His research has attracted a great deal of attention, as well as several awards from professional organizations. In September, Jason received an AACR Scholar-in-Training Award to present his studies at the 16th AACR Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved. He was awarded a travel scholarship to attend The Science of Cancer Health Equity in Sexual and Gender Minority Communities Conference, funded by the NCI and supported by NYU Langone Health, in New York, NY in October. Later in the month, Jason received a UCCCC travel grant to present his research in Boston and was awarded a Conquer Cancer® Merit Award by the 2023 ASCO Quality Care Symposium. Just last week, he received another AACR Scholar-in-Training Travel Award and a travel scholarship from UChicago Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and Innovation to present two spotlight discussion sessions and two posters at the 2023 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS 2023) in San Antonio, TX.

UChicago Medicine profiled Jason  and his research on December 1, 2023, along with other media outlets.
